Secret Spring…

Cattails

Cattails (Photo credit: alantankenghoe)

In the middle of Tampa, in a very urban section there is a ditch beside the road between three or four apartment complexes.  It’s the normal kind of ditch containing water runoff.  But, one particular part has cattails growing in a small clump maybe 4 feet by 4 feet.   in this small area there is always water….cool clear water…there is also fish..small fish, but fish nonetheless.  This is not rainwater, and it does not come from a lake or river, but it is one small area of vibrant life in the middle of a manmade apocalypse.  It’s beautiful.

——-

A kiss of life in the desert,

born of love and raised by hope…

A nexus round which all revolves…

Refilling and refilling, born again from the muck…

Cool and pure,

so icily pure…

——-

To bathe within life itself…

The assault of worries on the defense….

leached from my body with surgical precision…

This icy treasure rewards the brash…

And boasts its own success…

within its secret depths…

Deep within its depths…

  1. Beautifiul. Always is a joy to find a hidden treasure of something natural within the chaos of urban living. You have captured the depth of this here, and given life to its deeper meaning. Thank you!
