A Floral Interlude

A Floral Interlude....

with the gracefulness of three turtles tied to a dead mule, I somehow got close enough to take this shot…They were growing at the bottom of a bluff by some slippery limestone…this….was not a recipe for elegance.  But!  the photo was taken and no bones were broken so that was a plus!

Yummy!

We also ate some wild blackberries.  I KNEW they were blackberries, but there is always an element of nervousness when shoving something in your mouth that you’ve just found on a bush….It’s been about 8 hours now, so I assume we are safe from even the slowest acting poison….I decided to take a small break from the rapids although they will be making a return tomorrow morning…

———–

Flowers of gold oh why must you be….

hanging so tantalizingly…

at the base of a cliff…

there’s something amiss…

as stumbling feet begin to slip…

on slippery rock….

like greasing your sock…

and sliding on floor so freshly mopped…

right down to your doom…

in darkening gloom…

beneath the laughing face of the moon…

So crazy you see…

To climb up with speed….

avoiding the sting of one angry bee…

But now I am home….

My feet they do moan…

to dream sweet dreams of water on stone….

  1. When I first looked at the floral photo, I thought it had a painterly quality – like an impressionist painting. Lots of movement, color. I know that must sound funny – life imitating art! But that’s what I saw. Beautiful photo!
