So close
Endless corners in
a twisted labyrinth
Each one promising relief
respite from this grimy race..
like sunlight being
eaten by the ravenous shadows
being consumed inch
by precious inch…
But never really leaving
always hanging tantalizingly near
like a carrot on a stick…
just a temptation to keep
the runners on the track
An incentive
to remain trudging along
Crawling forward
in hopes that next time…
would be
different.
