In a crowd of smiles
and bright eyes
A rictus grin greets the well wishers
the back slappers and the word pressers…
But truthfully I feel
the mirror’s harsh reflection
upon myself…
Shining back like midnight
in an arctic winter..
If only I fit in…
to be like them…
to talk and think
in that way..
The round hole does not hold
one like me…
and nobody ever realizes..
that the lonely tired call
echoing from the waterside
at sunset..
does not come from a wolf
or some wild thing…
It is simply born out
of the weariness
and differences
found deep
inside my
soul.

First let me say that the photo is fantastic. I love the reflections in the water, the whole scene is calm and serene. The poem is pretty but I hear sadness and self doubt which shouldn’t be there. Your words not just these but all are so expertly crafted, I feel joy to read your work and that my joy helps you feel your own joy.
Thank you kim. I feel ok but this is something I pretty much always feel. I’m glad you like the photograph. I’ve really been trying to improve:)
It shows. Very nice.
You are truly not alone…we are all there with you, and we’ve all been there. I hope your weekend finds you some where that refreshes your soul.
Thank you so much. I’m pretty sure you’re right and the weekend has blown in here and I’m happy for it 🙂
aw…I’m so happy for you, work done, I hope you get in some lovely walks, it seems to be what heals you
Beautiful and poignant – I can certainly identify with the words. I think self doubt shadows all of us. Seriously, you have no need to self doubt – your poetry and verses are sublime. Hoping the weekend brings you comfort and solace 🙂
:))). Thank you so much. And I’m sure the weekend will help:)
Dude, I really do feel you on this. Here is my take Communion.
Something is in the air today. There is an unspoken (now spoken) theme of singularity vs. community….I can’t quite call out the infirmity, but I feel its pulse. Maybe it is just our humanity. ~In tune, Dan
I’m not sure. It just runs in peaks and valleys. We are off now but ill check your link when we get back in. Thank you dan
Oh, love that you show this side; the side we all share to some degree and often keep silent. I think you know that I get this poem Big Time. Love the photo, the wavering water reflection, the single post….the weariness and differences found deep inside the soul——-*sigh* The curse and blessing of the true artist, my friend. Hugging your words. I understand the wolf cry that is not wolf. Peace to you, and I hope you had a Fabulous Friday. 🙂 Sam
Yes…One of the many facets..lol…The single post was the inspiration for everything:))) thank you Sam and i’m sure you do get it:)
I figured the single post was the inspiration. 🙂 You found my comment! Yay! Facets are good…
yes…the single post did inspire:)
I hope you’re feeling better, David. I think we’ve all felt what you describe at one point or other. The thing to do is just put one foot in front of the other and trudge on. Hope you take care and I wish you a wonderful weekend 🙂
I’m ok…It’s just a feeling i have off and on…sometimes more and sometimes less…And i’m a master trudger lol..Have a great weekend Nezha:))))
this is a wonderful poem, but I think its a good thing not to be like everyone else..
You’re right, Selah…But sometimes it’s a little lonely
🙂 That’s what friends are for. 🙂
yes it is…
What a beautifully written poem. You have a way of saying things poetically, and hauntingly. I’ve been in that place you write about, years ago, wondering how people could smile so easily, chat so freely, be so at ease. Life has changed for me, but you brought back a flood of memories…
Its definitely not a fun place to visit. And thank you for the wonderful comment. I’m so glad you enjoyed
I sometimes feel that way, like today. I did not do anything all day and now I go to read my email and I am plying catch up with over 48 emails. You have a good weekend. Chin up.
It happens. Sadly enough. Good luck with the emails beatrix. Chin is up:)))
a person exhibiting his/her uniqueness is a man/woman of acceptance…please don’t ride the same ship with the others, it will never make you the real David…I’m in love with the image, could I use it as my desktop background? 🙂
I would be honored if you did…but this image is a bit cut….ill send you the whole image….its nicer:)
Awww, this one made me a little teary-eyed. I felt the ripples of knowing this oh, too well in my heart. Great expression and excellent form of words.
The great thing about these deep penetrating feelings is that they help people who are unable to articulate, or even feel “allowed” to express them. These emotions being expressed can create healing in many ways. It makes us all aware that being unique is a tremendous gift, and having those who relate brings comfort. Well done and inspirational!
Thank you Angel…and you’re right..we are always a slave to our feelings whether hidden or revealed…and being unique is definitely a gift indeed:)))
