Like flies to a decadent

yet poisonous honey,

the light wound itself inexorably

toward the dark beyond…

As dark goes…

This was its archetype…

Pitch black and sticky

like tar from a long,

forgotten pit…

A shadow looming longer

than time itself…

And as the brightness advanced,

it was swallowed up in one

wet, and unseemly gulp

with not a hand raised

in defense…

From this moment on,

the darkness reigned over all

Gently swaddling the day with

cool greys and elegant ebony…

with shadows sweetly becoming

the next best thing to a friend

that anyone..

ever had.
