Looming Above

————

With the pounding of my heart

matching my furious feet,

I raced blindly through the trees…

looming above…

archly dark

and smelling of rotted pine…

They reached down with craggy limbs…

each designed

to snatch at my very essence…

Finally,

with a tumble…

I entered a clearing…

Ringed in by the oldest…

True elders out of time…

They plucked me up…

held me in the air…

and caressed my face with wind

worn limbs…

when my life was lost twice over,

I was tossed aside like

disposed refuse…

And, with the sound of

their hoarse laughter

ringing in my ears…

Was shoved roughly…

and with disdain

out of the

forest…

Back into a world..

which appeared..

Much more hostile…

and alien…

now…

  1. Great poem David, a pleasure to read your poems! Also the picture is very beautiful!
I love black and white photos! I always thought were so expressive!
Have a great day, David and a splendid weekend! 🙂

  2. Now you are weaving fabrics? That’s a nice new hobby. Just be sure not to get your fingers caught in the loom.
No? That’s not the you meant about looming? Darn! Missed again!
