Descent into the Future

————

Slicing a scar through

the ruined countryside…

Cold steal gleefully honed

its edge through the

granite and gravel

and dismissed any

nostalgic feelings about the past…

as boulders became rocks and rocks

became pebbles.

The change was too severe to be

reversed….

And the gleaming metal sent

barbed spokes into the

fleshy earth…

Holding on securely

to the ground

transforming life into mercurial

death….

And shooting kinetic energy into the rails….

until the nonliving

rose up

and sloughed off its silver

chains before it dove down

and rooted straight into the ground….

Feeding itself….

Growing fat and tender….

from now….

till the end of time…
