Drifting with the breeze
and attracted by the smell of tired steel,
he stopped next to the
old, weather beaten post…
And waited…
swaying between this world and the next…
his body caught by the breeze like
a fluttering kite…
He glanced upward…
Where the sun punched a hole in the clouds…
slowly consuming his skin…
Eating it at a molecular level…
Mutating and gobbling the cells
till all was in turmoil…
But the steel…
these gently curved barbs…
remained cool…
and pleasant…
Sharp and tingly to the touch…
full of excitement and promise….
Full of a withering desire not found within
his deteriorating frame…
He traced his arm along the thorn..
painting himself with the cleanest
of scarlets…
Letting the impurities leak out…
drip by sanguine drip…
Til his skin shown
of the cleanest
of pale alabasters,
And the smile that had grown…
Secret and shining…
Remained…
As he softly and weightlessly fell…
into the cool green grass…
below…

It starts gentle and like the allusion of the body to the fluttering kite..but the poem later turns scary with the thorn drinking blood and also life from him…gripping poem indeed
Weird…Its twice as long as what I normally write. Did you like it?
yes, liked it, of course. but the underlying sadness and death is moving
Thank you. It was interesting to watch this one take shape:)
self-inflicted pain..and what remains in the end is a painful silence..
You are right…just disappearing in the grass
Wow this one is really longer than usually, words were welling from you 🙂
this lines are my favorite in this poem:
Letting the impurities leak out…
drip by sanguine drip…
Til his skin shown
of the cleanest
of pale alabasters,
I’m glad you read it….weird because it is twice as long than normal. what did you think?
Its not weird its cool its almost more story than a poem… like sci-fi story about deadly poison which starts nice and easy then it punch you in your stomach, horror is increasing and when it ends you want more…like to be continued.
I like this one very much
Thank you! I wish more people had read it. It’s one of my favorites as well
I wish that too its really good one.
oh well:)
