A Hint of Orange

afraid

Green lilied wonderment

spiraled in pirouettes

neath the ebony sky….

And despite the dripping

elegance of darkness…

This beauty dug

deep…

carved its way

fearfully inside…

and shaved back the layers

like a  knobby, wicker trap…

Leaving my legs twisting and

dangling over the edge…

Feeling the wood’s sharpened corners

digging and gouging into my flesh…

and unable to move…

transfixed with dread….

Too far to crawl away

Yet much closer

than the pungent odor of

oranges…

which drifted sullenly by…

from a  woody shore…

much too far..

away…
